It gains XP every time you gain job XP, so you never feed it directly. A higher level means bigger stats and stronger abilities. --- ## How Pet XP Works - Pet XP comes from the XP you earn in your jobs and from creature kills. - Your pet has a **skill**: Combat, Mining, Farming, Fishing, Foraging, Alchemy, Enchanting, Taming or All Skills. The pet's menu says which jobs level it, on a line starting "Levels only from". - Jobs in the pet's own skill give it full XP. Jobs in any other skill give it nothing. - Mining and Fishing jobs give pets half again as much XP as other jobs. - The Taming pet and the All Skills pet level from every job at a third of the rate. Alchemy and Enchanting jobs give them a twelfth. - Your Taming level adds +1% pet XP for each level. - Pet items add more. An Exp Boost for the pet's skill adds 20% to 40%, and the All Skills Exp Boost adds 10%. One full climb of a job's ladder to its top level gives about 12.8 million pet XP. A Common pet needs 5.6 million XP to reach level 100 and a Legendary needs 25.4 million. See [Pets](https://justified.gg/wiki/pets) for every rarity. Only your summoned pet gains XP, plus the pet in your Exp Share slot. Every other pet waits. Pick the Right Pet for Your Job If you run Weed Grower, a Farming pet levels. A Combat pet doesn't. Swap your summoned pet when you swap jobs. ### Level Messages When your pet levels up you get a message with the new level, and the pet celebrates. If it grew into a new age, the message tells you. --- ## Taming **Taming** is a skill that grows as your pets level. A quarter of the pet XP you gain also goes into Taming. From Alchemy jobs it's a fortieth. Each Taming level gives you: - +1% pet XP. - +1 Pet Luck, which raises the odds that creatures drop pets. - A 0.3% discount on Kat's fees. - One [Age-Up Potion](https://justified.gg/wiki/item/pet_age_potion). - The right to upgrade pets to a rarer tier at Kat. Uncommon needs Taming 1, Rare 5, Epic 10 and Legendary 20. - A bigger Exp Share. --- ## Exp Share Exp Share lets a second pet learn from the one you have out. Set it in the Pets menu. - The shared pet gets 0.2% of the summoned pet's XP for each level of Taming you have. - The summoned pet can't be the shared one, and a pet at level 100 or with Kat gets nothing. - A walking egg can't be shared. At Taming 25 that's 5% of your pet's XP. --- ## Candy and Boosts [Simple Carrot Candy](https://justified.gg/wiki/item/candy_simple), Great, Superb and Ultimate Carrot Candy give your pet a lump of XP at once. Each pet can eat 10 candies in its life. The Exp Boost items give a permanent bonus while the pet holds one. A pet adds 1 point for Common up to 5 for Legendary, plus 1 more once it hits level 100. Eggs that still need to hatch don't count, apart from the Antlion Guard Egg, which counts as a Legendary. Pet Score gives you Magic Find. The table is on [Combat Stats](https://justified.gg/wiki/pve/combat-stats#magic-find). --- ## Tips - Level the pet that matches your main job first. - Put an Exp Boost for your skill on your pet. - Don't spend candy on a pet you'll replace. Replacing with a higher rarity keeps the XP, but a swapped species starts over. - Keep an old pet in the Exp Share slot to bring it along. --- ## FAQ ### Why does my pet get no XP while I'm doing a job? That job isn't in your pet's skill. Check the line on the pet's menu. ### Do I lose pet XP if I despawn it? No. Your XP is kept. It just stops gaining. ### Does XP carry when Kat upgrades my pet? Yes. XP stays, but the level is recalculated on the new rarity's table.
