Fuel Refiner
Fuel Refiner (/fuelrefiner) is an interactive production job. You drill for oil, burn off gas, pump the crude, and refine it into fuel. It needs active attention and a big upfront investment, but pays well for dedicated players.
Guide Accuracy
We keep this guide up to date, but specific values may change with server updates. Always check in-game for current figures.
The Full Process
Get Equipment
Buy a BuildKit from the F4 menu and choose which machine to build from it.
Find Open Ground
Drills go on any dirt, sand or grass. They won't go on concrete.
Drill Down
Place a Drill Tower and feed it Pipes. You need to drill through 25 to 45 pipes to hit oil.
Burn Gas (if present)
If the hole has gas, place a Burner on it to clear the gas before pumping.
Pump the Oil
Replace the drill with a Pump to bring up crude oil.
Refine into Fuel
A Pump feeds your nearest Refinery by hose. Choose the fuel grade and it turns crude into fuel.
Sell the Fuel
Take your fuel barrels to The Smelter, the Broker that buys fuel.
Equipment Overview
| Machine | Price | Limit | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drill Tower | £5,000 | 2 | Drills down to reach oil |
| Burner | £4,000 | 1 | Burns off gas before pumping |
| Pump | £10,000 | 3 | Brings oil up from the ground |
| Refinery | £18,000 | 2 | Turns oil into fuel |
You build each machine from a BuildKit (£250). You'll also need:
- 10x Pipes (£100): feed them into the drill tower
- Barrels (£100): each holds 160L of oil or fuel
- Palette (£100): carries up to 18 barrels
Drilling
Setting Up the Drill
- Build a Drill Tower from a BuildKit
- Place it on dirt, sand or grass
- Press E to start
- Keep feeding it pipes
Burning Gas
When you hit oil, there may be gas in the hole that needs burning off first.
Place a Burner on the drill hole
The burner starts burning the gas
Wait for all the gas to clear
Watch for overheating and stay nearby to fix it
Overheat Warning
Burners can overheat. Keep an eye on them!
Pumping Oil
Once the gas is cleared:
Take down the drill tower
Place a Pump on the hole
The pump fills your nearest Refinery through a hose, or its own barrel when the refinery is full
Holes have limited oil. When one runs dry, drill a new one.
Refining
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Feed the input with oil, by hose from a pump or an oil barrel |
| 2 | Place an empty barrel on the output side |
| 3 | Select the fuel grade FIRST |
| 4 | Start the conversion |
Select Before Converting!
Choose your fuel grade before starting.
Fuel Grades
Better grades are worth more for the same oil. Each grade has a Fuel Refiner level: below it you get less fuel.
| Grade | Level |
|---|---|
| Low-Grade Petrol | 0 |
| Low-Grade Diesel | 8 |
| Refined Petrol | 18 |
| Refined Diesel | 30 |
| High-Octane Petrol | 42 |
| Synthetic Diesel | 55 |
Upgrades
Buy modules for your machines to make them better:
| Upgrade Benefit | Effect |
|---|---|
| Speed | Faster drilling, burning, pumping, refining |
| Capacity | Hold more pipes and oil |
| Anti-Jam | Fewer jams and overheats |
You get half your money back if you sell a module.
Selling
Take your fuel barrels to The Smelter. Broker names change, so read the nameplate. The Fence buys anything, for less.
Price Changes
Each Broker's rate moves over time. Check before selling!
Tips for Success
Base machines are slow and jam often. Invest in modules early.
Up to three pumps can feed your refineries at once.
Drills jam and burners overheat. This job needs attention, so don't AFK.
You'll go through a lot of pipes. Buy plenty before starting.
Choose the grade BEFORE converting.
Holes run out of oil. Be ready to drill a new one.
Common Problems
Cause: You're not on open ground.
Solution: Drills go on dirt, sand or grass, not concrete or floors.
Cause: Jams happen, more on deeper holes.
Solution: Buy anti-jam modules and stay nearby to repair quickly.
Cause: It overheated and nobody fixed it.
Solution: Stay near the burner and fix it when it overheats.
Cause: The grade is above your Fuel Refiner level.
Solution: Refine grades at your level until you level up.
Cause: Setup time and upgrade costs eat into profit.
Solution: This job pays off in long sessions. Upgrade, then grind.
