Garry's Mod Controls and Keybinds

Every default Garry's Mod keybind, from noclip and the spawn menu to physgun, toolgun and undo, plus how to change binds and use the bind command.

In Garry's Mod you move with WASD, hold Q for the spawn menu and C for the context menu, fly with V and undo with Z. Every default key is below, along with the physgun, gravity gun and toolgun controls and how to rebind anything.

Spawn Menu and Context Menu

Hold Q and a cursor appears. Click anything in the spawn menu and it appears where you were aiming. The left side holds props, weapons, entities, NPCs and vehicles. The right side holds the Tools list and the Utilities tab. Let go of Q to close it.

Hold C for the context menu. You get a cursor without your view moving, so you can click things in the world. Right-click a prop for options such as Remove. The icons in the context menu open extra windows, including the Player Model selector.

Physics Gun

The physics gun (physgun) picks up and moves almost anything except players.

Grab

Aim at a prop and hold left mouse. A beam locks on and the prop follows your aim.

Push and Pull

Scroll the mouse wheel to move the prop away from you or closer.

Rotate

Keep holding left mouse, then hold E and move the mouse to turn the prop.

Snap the Angle

Hold E and Shift together while rotating. The prop snaps in 45 degree steps.

Freeze and Unfreeze

Click right mouse while holding a prop to freeze it in place, even in mid-air. Press R while aiming at a frozen prop to unfreeze it. Double-tap R to unfreeze all your props.

You can change the snap angle in the spawn menu's Utilities tab, under Physics Gun Settings. The same panel changes the physgun's wheel speed and beam.

Gravity Gun

Sandbox also gives you the Half-Life 2 gravity gun, which sits in slot 1 with the crowbar. It only lifts light and medium objects.

ButtonWhat it does
Right mousePull an object in and hold it. Press again to drop it
Left mouseLaunch the object you're holding, or shove one in front of you

Toolgun

The toolgun runs whichever tool you pick in the spawn menu's Tools tab. Left mouse, right mouse and R do different things for each tool. The hint on your screen lists what each button does for the tool you're holding.

Our tool guides cover the popular ones: Precision, Stacker, Advanced Duplicator 2, Remover, No-Collide, Color, Material, Camera and Text Screen.

Undo and Clean Up

Press Z to undo the last thing you spawned or the last tool action, such as a weld. Keep pressing it to go further back.

For more control, open the spawn menu's Utilities tab. Undo lists everything you did, newest first, and you click any line to undo it. Clean Up removes all your props, or just one type, at once.

Change Your Keybinds

Press Escape and click Options.

Open the Keyboard tab.

Pick an action from the list and click Edit key, or double-click it.

Press the new key, then click OK.

Clear Key removes a binding. Use Defaults puts every key back the way the game shipped it.

The Bind Command

The console lets you bind any command to any key, including ones the Options menu doesn't list.

If the console won't open, go to Options, then Keyboard, click Advanced... and tick Enable developer console. Then press ` (the backtick key, below Escape) to open it.

CommandWhat it does
bind "g" "noclip"Press G to toggle noclip
bind "h" "+voicerecord"Hold H to talk
unbind "g"Remove whatever G does
key_findbinding noclipShow which key runs a command
key_listboundkeysList every key you've bound

Commands that start with a plus, like +voicerecord, run while you hold the key and stop when you let go. Put the key and the command in straight quotes. Our console commands guide lists more commands worth binding.
