The infected are zombies, headcrabs, antlions and worse. They live in a few districts, and the Sewers are the real fight. You earn cash, materials, Bestiary tiers, pet XP and Slayer progress from killing them.
If you're new, you're protected for your first 12 hours. Walk down into the sewers and look around, but don't attack anything until you're ready.

Quick Start
Get a gun and some health. The top floor of the sewers is the starter floor.
Learn the basics. Zombies, fast zombies and headcrabs make up most of it. See Creatures.
Sell what drops. Materials drop from every kill. The Combat Merchant buys them.
Go deeper. Each floor pays more and hits harder.
Add a pet and gear. Strength, Crit Damage and Defense make fights shorter.
