A Slayer quest is a paid boss fight. You pay Maddox a fee, fill the quest bar by killing a certain kind of creature, then a boss rises beside you that only you can hurt. Win and you get tokens, rare drops and Slayer XP. Die or run out of time and the fee is gone.
There are three Slayers. Each one has its own boss, its own district, its own levels and its own shop at Maddox.
| Slayer | Boss | Where | Tiers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zombie Slayer | Revenant Horror | The sewers | I to V |
| Headcrab Slayer | Broodmother | The sewers | I to IV |
| Antlion Slayer | Hive Tyrant | The forest | I to IV |
How It Works
Talk to Maddox and pick a Slayer and a tier. You pay the fee on the spot.
Fill the quest. Kills of that Slayer's creatures in its district fill the bar. Each kill adds its Combat XP, so tougher creatures, deeper floors and elites fill it faster. While you fill it, extra creatures show up around you and come for you.
Beat the boss. When the bar is full the boss rises beside you. It hunts only you, and only you can hurt it. Beat it inside the time limit.
Collect. The boss pays Slayer XP and tokens straight away, plus any rare drops.
- You can run one quest at a time.
- Die with the boss up, or run out the clock, and you fail the quest. The fee isn't refunded.
- Leave the district for 60 seconds and the boss withdraws. It rises again at full health when you come back.
- A warning comes with a minute left on the clock.
- Kills only count in the Slayer's own district. A kill in the forest doesn't fill a Zombie Slayer quest.
- Kin jobs and government jobs can't earn Slayer progress.
Minibosses
From tier II, a miniboss can show up while you fill the quest. It's tougher than what you're killing, and it adds nothing to the bar. Killing it pays you tokens: 1 for the ordinary one, 3 for the stronger one. They're the Revenant Sycophant and Revenant Champion, the Brood Sentinel and Brood Beast, and the Acid Worker and Acid Champion.
Unlocking and Gates
- Zombie Slayer is open from the start.
- Beat a Tier II Revenant Horror to unlock the Headcrab Slayer.
- Beat a Tier II Broodmother to unlock the Antlion Slayer.
- Each tier needs the tier below it beaten first.
- Tier III and up also ask for a Bestiary tier on that Slayer's creatures. The best creature in the families counts.
- Tier IV and V also ask for a Slayer level.

The Bosses
Revenant Horror
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Life Drain | Every 6 seconds it drains your health and heals itself. Get out of its sight before the cast ends. |
| Pestilence | Hurts everyone close to it every second and shreds armour. From tier II. |
| Enrage | Every 20 seconds it speeds up and hits harder for 6 seconds. From tier III. |
| Brood | Every 15 seconds it spits headcrabs around itself. |
At tier V the Atoned Horror fires marked blasts every few seconds, so never stand still.
Broodmother
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Brood | Every 10 seconds it spits headcrabs at you. Shoot them before they pile up. |
| Venom | Its bites poison you for 4 damage a second for 5 seconds. From tier II. |
| Burrow | Every 20 seconds it digs in and comes up beside you. Turn round. From tier III. |
Hive Tyrant
| Ability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Charge | It charges and knocks you flying. Put a tree or a wall between you so it crashes, then shoot it while it's dazed. |
| Swarm | Every 15 seconds antlions dig out around you. |
| Acid | From range it spits acid that leaves a burning pool. Keep moving, or close in. |
| Slam | It rears up and slams the ground. Get out of the dust rings. |
| Frenzy | Every 20 seconds it speeds up and hits harder for 6 seconds. |
Rewards
Every win pays Slayer XP and a stack of tokens: Revenant Flesh for the Zombie Slayer,
Brood Fang for the Headcrab Slayer and
Tyrant Mandible for the Antlion Slayer. Tokens are Maddox's currency, and he buys them back too.
| Tier | Slayer XP | Tokens before your level bonus |
|---|---|---|
| I | 5 | 1 to 3 |
| II | 25 | 9 to 18 |
| III | 100 | 30 to 50 |
| IV | 500 | 50 to 64 |
| V | 1,500 | 63 to 64 |
Your Slayer level adds +10% to the token stack for each level.
From tier II up the boss can also drop rare items. Maddox's menu lists each drop with a rarity label, from Guaranteed through Occasional, Rare and Extraordinary to Pray RNGesus. Some drops are for crafting, and some are collectibles.
- Zombie Slayer.
Foul Flesh,
Revenant Eye,
Beheaded Horror and Revenant Horror Skin.
- Headcrab Slayer.
Toxic Sac,

Broodmother's Clutch and

The RNG Meter
From tier III, the Slayer XP you earn fills a meter that aims at one of the rare drops. When the meter fills, that drop is guaranteed. Pick your target in Maddox's menu.
Slayer Levels
Slayer XP raises your level in that Slayer, up to level 9.
| Level | Zombie and Headcrab XP | Antlion XP |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 | 10 |
| 2 | 15 | 30 |

| 8 | 400,000 | 400,000 |
| 9 | 1,000,000 | 1,000,000 |

- Zombie Slayer.

| Ring | Cost | Slayer level | Bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ring I | 64 tokens | 2 | +3% damage |
| Ring II | 128 tokens and the Ring I | 4 | +6% damage |
| Ring III | 256 tokens, the Ring II and a rare drop | 6 | +10% damage |
Ring III needs the Revenant Eye for the Revenant Ring, the
Brood Heart for the Brood Ring and the
Grub Nugget for the Tyrant Ring.
Maddox also trades mob drops and elemental cores for ammo and other supplies, and he buys tokens, Radiant Shard and Apex trophies for cash. He pays out up to £53,000,000 a day in total.
Tips
- Fill the quest on the deepest floor you can handle. Deeper kills give more Combat XP each.
- Keep your health topped up before the boss rises. You can't pause the clock.
- Clear nearby headcrabs before the Broodmother, and keep moving for the Revenant Horror.
- Slayer levels take a long time, so start on tier I and II and let the XP build.
- Check your combat stats before a fight. Strength and Crit Damage shorten it.
FAQ
Can a friend help me kill my boss?
No. Only you can hurt your own boss, and it hunts only you.
What if I disconnect or leave mid-fight?
Leaving for 60 seconds makes the boss withdraw. It rises again at full health when you're back in the district. Dying fails the quest.
Do Slayer kills pay cash?
The kills pay as normal. The boss pays tokens and drops, not cash. The fee is what you spend to get them.
Why can't I start a tier?
The button shows what you're missing. It's usually the tier below, a Slayer level or a Bestiary tier.
