Justified runs on two currencies. Cash (£) is the one you earn and spend all day. Bits are the scarce one, used for Marketplace listings and special shop items. You start with £0 in your wallet.
Cash and Bits
| Currency | Where you earn it | What it buys |
|---|---|---|
| Cash (£) | Jobs, selling to brokers and merchants, paychecks, the Marketplace | Gear, machines, upgrades, bank tiers |
| Bits | Levelling up, quests and achievements | Items priced in Bits, and Bits listings on the Marketplace |
Your wallet holds your cash. Your bank account holds the cash you want to keep safe.
Paychecks
A paycheck comes due once an hour, at the same moment for everyone. You qualify once you have been online for a full hour in your current session.
Wait for the notification. It tells you to type /paycheck.
Open your payslip. It shows your pay, what was taken and why.
Claim it. Press the Cash cheque button or the Enter key. There's no quiz.
You have 5 minutes to claim. Miss the window and the pay isn't lost: it carries over onto your next paycheck as a separate line. One paycheck carries at most three times your own paycheck amount, and the rest arrives with the paychecks after it. Closing the payslip doesn't lose anything either. Type /paycheck again while the window is open.
What Changes Your Pay
| What | Effect |
|---|---|
| Your job's salary | The base. A job with no salary pays £10,000. |
| Same job for 1 hour | +10% |
| Same job for 2 hours | +25% (the most) |
| Earnings bonus | 5% of what you earned since the last paycheck from broker sales, printer collections and job payouts, capped at £50,000 |
| Time idle or away | Your pay shrinks by the share of the hour you were away |
| District tax | Taken at the rate of the district you're in. It goes to the Mayor's treasury. |
| Changing job | No paycheck for 15 minutes after you switch |
If you have money in your bank account, each claimed paycheck also pays you interest. See Bank.
Mia Calloway offers a practice payslip with sample figures. Practice claims never pay.
Losing Money When You Die
Get killed by another player and you lose 25% of your wallet, up to £500,000,000. Of what you lose, 35% is destroyed and the rest drops on the floor as a money bag. Anyone can pick the bag up.
The game keeps your money when:
- You have under 24 hours of playtime on the server.
- You died within 30 seconds of spawning.
- You were arrested.
- Your job, or your killer's job, is Citizen, Hobo, Medic or DJ.
- Something other than a player killed you.
- A staff action caused the death.
- The killing weapon is on the exempt list, which includes the grenade launchers, rocket launchers and the suicide bomb.
The message you get when you die says how much you lost. Money in your bank account is never touched, so deposit spare cash at an ATM before you go looking for a fight.
Tips
- Claim your paycheck the moment you get the notification, so nothing builds up.
- Stay on one job for two hours to get the full loyalty bonus.
- Bank anything you aren't about to spend.
FAQ
Why is my paycheck smaller than the job's salary?
Idle time, district tax and a fresh job change all cut it. The payslip lists each cut.
Do I lose Bits when I die?
No. Only the cash in your wallet is at risk.
Can I lose money to zombies?
No. The wallet loss only applies when another player kills you.
